I am a Consultant Counselling Psychologist who qualified in South Africa in 1996. Since then I have worked in various countries, both with young people and adults, as a psychologist in the community, in inpatient facilities and as a volunteer. I have been working in multicultural environments throughout my career. I completed my Ph.D., focussing on human migration, during 2012. My research highlighted the resilience of human beings.
My daily practice is inspired by the confirmation of my research, which is evident in everyone I work with. When I meet with a client, we decide together what the treatment intervention will entail. I collaborate with clients to co-author a treatment programme that they can accept as hope-inducing. My assumption when starting a therapeutic relationship with a client is a belief in his, her or their potential and the possibilities enveloped in the work we are going to do together.
I work with individual young people (adolescents) and adults, couples, families and groups. Although mainly working as a Narrative Therapist, I am also very experienced as a Dialectical Behaviour Therapist (DBT). I had intensive training and many years of experience practicing as a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist (CBT). The ideas of Systems Therapy underpin my work across the board. It is important to me that the therapeutic modality I use suits the client I am working with.
A particular expertise I bring to my practice, is diagnosing and assessing difficulties and subsequently selecting relevant treatment(s) to address these challenges. It would be a privilege to work with you to address the specific struggles in your life.
I have experience in working with, especially, the following presentations:
Insurances I work with: AXA, Aviva, Bupa, Vitality, CIGNA, Simply Health, WPA and others.
